| The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine provides care for critically ill newborns and premature infants in the Newborn Critical Care Center (NCCC) at the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. The NCCC is a 48 bed facility served by 14 attending neonatologists, nine nurse practitioners and more than 150 neonatal specialists from UNC Hospitals. Members of the Division have collaborative relationships with other Pediatric Specialties within UNC and care for newborns from more than 50 counties in North Carolina. Following discharge, many of our patients are evaluated in the Special Infant Care Clinic, which is designed to assist community health care providers and to promote the best developmental outcomes for these children. The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine is extensively involved in ongoing clinical and basic science research to improve the care delivered to critically ill newborns.

More than two-thirds of the 750 newborns admitted to our hospital annually are born in the North Carolina Women’s Hospital. The Pediatric Transport Team, which is part of Carolina Air Care, transports the remainder of the newborns to our hospital.
